Gage John Lazare is a young Mohawk artist born and raised in Kahnawake, located near Montreal. From a very young age, painting became his favorite hobby. Gage paints because it’s a way for him to get his energy out, to clear his mind and spirit. Lazare’s contemporary roles models are Jackson Pollock, Alfred Hitchcock and Alexander McQueen. They inspire him in ways to stay true to himself. Gage John Lazare is inspired by pop art. His canvases represent many mythical figures of Popular Culture, typical of the pop art movement. Gage’s work is also contemporary through the whole creation process and the necessity for environmental consciousness: all the materials he uses are recycled; from the paints, to the canvas and the frames.
