Tim Whiskeychan is a Cree artist from the First Nation of Waskaganish. Born in 1968 in Chibougamau, he was raised in Chapais by his adoptive parents Harry and Laura Whiskeychan. Art has been the central force and narrative of his life. Since his early childhood, Tim has been a self-taught artist.
He refined his artistic technique from 1996 to 1999, when he returned to school. His paintings are in acrylic, but he enjoys discovering other mediums. Tim works in both illustration and design. He speaks Cree, English and French. His ability to speak multiple languages has enabled him to travel with his art and to foster a wide-ranging audience for his art works. In 2013, he got selected by the Canadian Royal Mint to create a silver collection coin. His coin got launched on September 14th 2014.
